Finally, a proper research on the subject of “Violent Video Games” conducted by Harvard Researchers counters the misconception. Seriously, I never bought the whole “violent video games will cause violent behavior” bullshit. Video games are fun even if they are a bit violent. It’s actually quite a good stress reliever.
Soccer moms are controlled almost exclusively by fear. When an opportunist lawyer or psychologist makes the claim that something is dangerous, paranoid moms assume that it is. Now we’ve gotten to the point where enough of these nimrods all believe the same thing so in the collective unconscious of paranoid mothers, video games are responsible for every violent act of every child regardless of the facts.
I’m glad this conducted this study. I’m glad I never had that “soccer mom” mentality. I’m glad to say that I will one day be playing video games with my son. (whenever that day comes and yes, I will kick his ass in the games - if he wants to beat me, PRACTICE young grasshopper!) But for now, I’m kicking my nephews ass in video games.
This is my article about why flash sucks ass and some reasons why you should NOT make your site in flash. A recent study has confirmed what we all know, that surfers hate flash.
“If I’m going to a Web site, I want information. I want information quickly. It could be written in 10 point pica for all I care. I’m already interested in what might be there, why turn me off?”
Subtle use is OK. And widget use is OK. But creating an entire flash page is just overkill. Yes, you want to show off the animation and visual effects but you’re not thinking about your visitors you selfish twit!
The only types of sites that should do this are those that are already WELL KNOWN such as musical groups (U2, Mariah Carey, Three Doors Down, etc.), movie sites (because they are short term in most cases anyway) and maybe product web sites that are VERY FAMILIAR (Mountain Dew, M&Ms, etc.). Otherwise, It is a bad marketing decision to do an all Flash site.
